Magus is an established commodity brokerage firm with offices in New York and London. Founded in 2013, our business is focused on broking energy derivatives for an extensive client base including producers, utilities, banks, trading houses, hedge funds and market makers.

We are looking to hire a Junior Broker to join either our Crude Oil & Products Options desk or Natural Gas desk in New York and become part of an ambitious and growing firm.

We are looking for a self-starter who is also highly collaborative, comfortable taking responsibility and keen to develop their own client relationships over time. The successful candidate will be expected both to deepen relationships with existing clients and to identify and develop new business opportunities.

The role will include:

• Assisting senior brokers with the coverage of existing clients
\n
• Broking and executing orders across energy derivatives markets
\n
• Monitoring, recording and clearly communicating market activity to clients and colleagues
\n
• Supporting price discovery and the build up of liquidity
\n
• Developing existing client relationships and originating new ones
\n
• Conducting market research and supporting broader business-development initiatives
\n
• Performing a range of commercial and operational tasks including clearing and confirming trades, onboarding new clients, and assisting finance and compliance teams
\n

We will consider applications from junior brokers and candidates with relevant experience in other financial or commodity markets though a strong interest in and understanding of energy markets is preferred.

Candidates should have:

\n
• Relevant experience in financial markets, for example as a junior broker, desk assistant, sales trader or research analyst
\n
• Series 3 registration, or the ability to obtain it promptly
\n
• Strong numerical, analytical and technical skills
\n
• Excellent verbal communication skills and the confidence to interact directly with clients
\n
• Demonstrable commercial or sales ability
\n
• A strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving market environment
\n
• An interest in the practical application of technology and AI; professional experience using AI tools is preferred
\n
